چکیده

The reaction between O atoms and CO molecules on Pd 111 was investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy STM . CO was dosed on the 2 2 O-covered surface at temperatures between 100 and 190 K, and the structure changes were monitored by STM. CO adsorption causes compression of the 2 2 O overlayer into islands of the 2 1 O structure, followed by reaction of the O atoms to give CO2. The 2 2 O overlayer does not react with CO at temperatures up to 180 K, whereas the 2 1 O phase reacts at temperatures as low as 136 K. The analysis of the reaction kinetics reveals an activation energy for the O+CO reaction of 0.4 eV and a reaction order of 1 with respect to the O coverage.

Enhanced transient reactivity of an O-sputtered Au(111) surface

The interaction of SO2 with oxygen-sputtered Au(111) surfaces (θoxygen ≤ 0.35 ML) was studied by monitoring the oxygen and sulfur coverages as a function of SO2 exposure. Two reaction regimes were observed: oxygen depletion followed by sulfur deposition. An enhanced, transient sulfur deposition rate is observed at the oxygen depletion point. This effect is specifically pronounced if the Au surf...

The structure of formate species on Pd(111) calculated by density functional theory and determined using low energy electron diffraction

The structure of formate species adsorbed on Pd(111) has been determined using low-energy electron diffraction (LEED). The presence of formate species on the Pd(111) surface was established using reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS). The oxygen atoms of the formate species were found to be adsorbed over surface palladium atoms with the OCO plane perpendicular to the surface. The ...

Evidence for structure sensitivity in the high pressure CO1NO reaction over Pd[111] and Pd[100]

The chemisorption of coadsorbed CO and NO has been studied over Pd~111! and Pd~100! at 1310 Torr using infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy. At a pressure ratio of PNO/PCO5 1, the ratio of adsorbed NO to adsorbed CO, @NOa#/@COa#, increased with temperature over both single crystal surfaces. Furthermore, the @NO#a/@CO#a was significantly higher on Pd~111! than on Pd~100! in the temperatur...

CO dissociation induced by adsorbed oxygen and water on Ir(111).

Although CO does not dissociate on the clean Ir(111) surface, the addition of atomic oxygen induces CO dissociation at low temperatures (lower than 400 K); similarly, CO dissociation has also been observed on water co-adsorbed Ir(111) or water and oxygen co-adsorbed Ir(111).

Ab initio (first principle) material modeling study on Lio adsorbed by palladium-cobalt (PdCo) nanoparticles

PdCo subnanoalloys have been commonly used as a catalytic material in some important chemicalreactions, involving in fisher-tropsch reactions, and oxygen reduction reactions. In terms ofunderstanding the role of catalysis, these smallest bimetallic nanoparticles provide the simplestprototypes of Pd-Co bimetallic catalysts for different compositions. In this study, the effect o...
